VW and IG Metall: Last chance of agreement before Christmas!
The collective bargaining dispute at Volkswagen reaches a critical point, while IG Metall and the automobile manufacturer in Hanover come together for the possibly decisive round of negotiations. The previous negotiation rounds were characterized by stuck positions, but after the fourth round, both sides indicate that there was a constructive climate of conversation. Nevertheless, there is no real approach. Thorsten Gröger, negotiator of IG Metall, makes it clear: "Now it says: Either the company is correctly put on the part of the company shortly before Christmas, or we are running into a massive escalation in 2025." Failure to the talks could possibly lead to an expansion of the warning strikes in the coming year, reports Die Zeit .
After 100,000 employees had already participated in warning strikes in the past, IG Metall is ready to strengthen its measures if no agreement is reached. Negotiations begin on Monday at 11 a.m. in a hotel in Hanover, and it remains to be seen whether the two sides can reach an agreement in this critical phase in order to alleviate the upcoming conflicts.
