Hannover, Deutschland - Hannover- A judiciary scandal shakes Lower Saxony! The arrested prosecutor (39) from Hanover is now examined by Attorney General Andreas Heuer in Oldenburg. The Lower Saxony Minister of Justice Kathrin Wahlmann (47, SPD) has decided that her own authority can no longer determine against her presumably corrupt colleague.

The minister confirmed on Saturday that this year a public prosecutor's office had to choose from his area for the investigation. Possible candidates are the prosecutors in Aurich, Oldenburg or Osnabrück. This fundamental decision means that in the future in the event of misconduct by prosecutors, another authority will always lead the investigations. Previously, the local public prosecutor's office was responsible for what Wahlmann brought in a lot of criticism in the past.

The prosecutor is suspected of having informed an international gang of drugs about important results of the investigation. According to reports, he is said to have received 65,000 euros in cash. The gang, which smuggled more than 23 tons of cocaine from South and Central America into the EU, was able to settle abroad before a nationwide raid in 2021 after the prosecutor had warned.

The investigation against him was already initiated in 2022, but the allegations were only public in spring 2023, when Jonas H., the freight forwarder of the cocaine mafia, opened the mole accusations. The prosecutor was finally arrested on October 29, 2024 and is now in custody for bribery, betrayal of service secrets and punishment.

Already in 2021 there were suspicions of a "leak" within the authorities. In November 2022, the apartment and the public prosecutor's office was searched. Although the investigation was discontinued at the time, the question remains how it was possible that, despite the ongoing investigations, he remained responsible for drug procedures until his arrest. The CDU in the state parliament now calls for information about these processes.
