Care in Lower Saxony: rapid increase and new ways for support
in Lower Saxony, the number of people in need of care literally explodes! According to a recent evaluation of the scientific institute of the health insurance AOK, the number has increased by an incredible 50 percent in the past six years. In the Hanover region, the increase is even clearer with over 60 percent and in some parts of Lower Saxony by over 70 and 80 percent. These numbers throw a bright light on the challenges that the nursing industry face. "The results show how heterogeneous care in Germany is," says Susann Behrendt, one of the editors of the study. The regional differences shown confirm that the care supply cannot be solved uniformly, and the current trends clearly outperform the previous demographic forecasts, as well as hannover.de agreed.

In the middle of these alarming numbers, Carola Reimann, the AOK federal chairman, calls for a rethink in nursing policy. She explains: "If we want to provide people in the partial performance system of social long -term care insurance well in the future, we have to break new ground in nursing." A promising approach is the so -called caring communities that rely on a stronger integration of volunteers. The BabyBoomer generation, born between 1950 and early 1970s, could play a key role here, since many of them are already volunteer. A survey by the Forsa Research Institute shows that 64 percent of this generation are open to get involved in organized networks and to support people in need in everyday life. Initiatives, such as the planned neighborhood centers in Hanover, could serve as a model for other regions. These centers combine consulting and cultural offers with therapeutic and nursing services in order to reduce the pressure on nursing care, according to the assessment of haz.
