Strike action day in Lower Saxony: IG Metall demands 7% more wages!

Hannover, Deutschland - In the tariff conflict of the metal and electrical industry in Lower Saxony, it is bubbling hard! The IG Metall has called for strikes again and the first promotions take place today. Thorsten Gröger, the district manager of IG Metall, announced: "The first week was a strong beginning, but now we are going to put a step on it." The employees are determined to show their displeasure loudly, and employers will "feel even more clearly" in the coming days, what that means.

massive strikes across northern Germany

The wave of the warning strikes has already recorded numerous companies in Lower Saxony. Over 20 companies, including the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg and Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems in Emden, are affected. In Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there is also a strike, with impressive meetings of union members who arise for their demands. IG Metall demands a whopping seven percent more wages and 170 euros for trainees, while the employer side only offers 3.6 percent over 27 months - an offer that the union rates as "completely inadequate".

The employers, on the other hand, argue that their proposals are among the highest of the past 20 years and that IG Metall's demands are no longer up to date. Lower Saxony Metal boss Volker Schmidt emphasizes: "Now it's about moving together." But IG Metall remains stubborn and is planning a big day of action on Thursday, in which the work is to be laid down in several cities.

The obligation to peace has now been fallen and the employees have raised their voices. With torches and union flags, employees gathered in front of the factory gates to fight for their rights. IG Metall represents around 3.9 million members nationwide, and 100,000 employees are affected in Lower Saxony alone. The location is tense and the next few days could be crucial!
