Nordhorn triumphs when cycling: record participation and prices!

Nordhorn did it! At the final event in the fully occupied council hall, it was announced with great pleasure that the city set a new record for city cycling. "Of course we hoped that we could exceed the very good result from the previous year again. But we hadn't expected such a success," cheered the environmental representative Gerwin Rademaker. The number of participation and the overall result rose by impressive 25 percent compared to 2023!

City Councilor Milena Schauer emphasized the importance of this campaign: "City cycling is not only very positive for climate protection and bicycle traffic development. It is also a great community campaign for urban society." The event was supported by numerous clubs and organizations that were active with public themed tours. A big thank you went to the ADFC Grafschaft Bentheim for the close accompaniment of the campaign.

bicycle -active municipal parliament

Nordhorn has again won the title of the "most bicycle -active local parliament" among cities with 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants. Mayor Thomas Berling and a delegation of council members will travel to Munich at the end of November to celebrate this success.

Special prices for schools

The schools played an outstanding role this year. The city of Nordhorn awarded special prices for the most bicycle active primary and high schools that are invested in the school yard. The Freiherr from the Stein School won an average of 144.8 km per student and received 7,500 euros. The Bookholt primary school again secured first place at the primary schools at 393.3 kilometers per student and can look forward to another schoolyard extension.

Thanks to numerous sponsors, individual prices were also raffled off. Two main prices worth 500 euros each went to participants of the Ev.-Altref. Parish and SpVgg Brandlecht-Hestrup. Further prices, including checks and bicycle accessories, were also distributed among the participants.
