Welthaus Hannover: A place of encounter - opportunities and challenges!
Welthaus Hannover: A place of encounter - opportunities and challenges!
Hannover, Deutschland - in Hanover has been discussing the implementation of a World House for a long time, which is supposed to act as a place of transcultural encounter and cosmopolitanism. The project aims to involve both migrant and none of the migration and to promote social diversity. An event for the Welthaus project took place in the Faust cultural center in January 2023.
In the spring of 2024, the project team undertook several excursions to existing world houses in other cities to gain valuable suggestions. The first stop was the House of Cultures in Braunschweig opened in 2013, followed by the Welthaus Bielefeld, which has been committed to the global south since 1988, and finally the House of Cultures in Göttingen since 1996. These excursions should contribute to the broad list of the transcultural project "Welthaus Hannover", whose sponsoring association Miso (migrant self-organizations-network Hannover e.V.) was founded in 2012 and pursues the goal of promoting the cosmopolitanism and the common sense of the Hanoverians, as the Lotto-Sport-Stiftung reported.
Current developments and challenges
In the summer of 2024, the exchange with the Hüttenstraße initiative in Vahrenwald/Hainholz began to further promote the activities of the planned World House. Miso plans to make the Welthaus Welthaus more known in the city society, among other things through various events, such as an information stand in the rescue and participation in the Boule Festival on the Maschsee-Westufer.
However, there were recently setbacks because the Miso sponsoring association went insolvent at the end of November 2024. A new establishment of an independent sponsoring association is being considered, but it remains unclear whether interested parties and supporters can be found for this new establishment. Other supporters and interested parties are sought to realize the vision of the Welthaus in Hanover, as well as from point-linden.de
The Miso sees itself as a voice for a future-proof "we-city society" and is committed to an equal coexistence in Hanover, it remains intercultural, democratic, anti-racist and partly political and independent of religion.
