Hitzesommer at IGS Geismar: Schoolchildren demand quick action!
Göttingen, Deutschland - The students Ida Marie and Fleur from IGS Geismar in Göttingen have made a clear position: lessons are hardly possible in the heat in their classrooms. At temperatures above 26 degrees Celsius, the learning becomes agony. In a meeting of the Göttingen building committee, they made it clear that ventilation does not help at the extreme temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees on the adjacent flat roof. "We slowly need a solution," the two demanded. Despite multiple inquiries to the administration, an answer has so far been left out, which underlines the feeling of helplessness. The Göttingen City Councilor Frithjof Look was unable to provide any specific improvements and explained that the structural conditions of the IGS from the 1970s tighten the problem.
creative solutions for heat -free school rooms
While the IGS Geismar suffers from the oppressive warmth, other schools seem to take brave steps into the future. In Hanover, the IGS Linden recently presented innovative plans to modernize their premises. In a feasibility study, the idea was presented to build a schoolyard on the roof. This could create a unique freedom that not only offers the students new opportunities, but could also bring climatic benefits. Interior designer Prof. Tanja Remke reported on the positive results of the months of discussions between teachers, students, parents and administration.
While the urge for solutions in Göttingen remains unsatisfied, exciting developments are based in Hanover. This innovative approach could not only improve the quality of life of the students at the IGS Linden, but also serve as an example for other schools, as can be dealt with with the challenge of summer heat. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether those responsible in Göttingen react to this and consider similar steps.
