Football fans devastate rest area at Kalefeld - police are looking for clues!

Last Saturday there was an incident at the rest area on Bierberg-Ost near Kalefeld in the district of Northeim, which gives rise to concern. According to the Göttingen police, around 12.40 p.m., three coaches with more than 100 football fans stopped to take a break while they were on their way to the north. The situation quickly escalated when the fans caused numerous damage.

During their stay, the followers damaged various signs and devastated the sanitary facilities. Some toilet rooms were "made partially unrecognizable" and smeared with color and stickers. It remains to be seen in which club the fans come from. "We have found stickers of the Ultras of Mainz 05, but whether these fans are the cause is not proven," said police spokesman Marcel Sikulski.

cleaning staff alert the police

A cleaning staff who happened to be on site watched vandalism and immediately informed the police. The authorities report that not only traffic signs, but also the toilet house as well as a noise barrier were defaced with stickers and spray paint.

The damage is significant and it is likely that a special company must be commissioned to clean the rest area. The cost of cleaning cannot be canceled at the present time. The police have already started the investigation and asks everyone who was at the rest area and had information at the Göttingen motorway police on 0551/4916515.

FSV Mainz 05, whose fans may be connected to the incident, played against FC St. Pauli in the Millerntor Stadium on Saturday. Such a worrying escalation of fan behavior on rest areas raises questions about security and dealing with such incidents. The investigation continues.
