Realistic amo lawsuit exercise in Gifhorn: Police tests emergency reactions!

In Gifhorn, an important exercise to deal with amo lawsuits at the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer Realschule took place on October 11, 2024. Organized by the Gifhorn police inspection, the city of Gifhorn and the Gifhorner district association of the German Red Cross, the goal of this measure was to optimally prepare the emergency services for real threat situations. In order to make the scenario as realistic as possible, the exact process was only known to a limited number of employees.

In a fictional scenario that took place during a celebration in school, two armed people fired at those present. This situation presented the police and the emergency services before immense challenges that required a quick and coordinated reaction. Not only did the acute risk by the attacker have to be neutralized, but also looked after numerous injured and uninjured people and handed over to the present emergency staff.

cooperation and training in the focus

Special attention received special attention during the exercise. The police, fire brigade and emergency services had to communicate quickly and efficiently to take the most necessary steps. These demands on the cooperation were specifically trained in this exercise use in order to minimize the response times in an emergency.

The head of the Gifhorn police inspection, Oliver Meyer, was on site to observe and was satisfied with the implementation of the exercise. "Every second counts in a threat. Our emergency services must be able to act quickly and to recognize the weaknesses in the process," he explained, emphasizing the high level of professionalism that was shown among the emergency services. Meyer also thanked everyone involved for careful preparation and implementation.

The first city council of Gifhorn, Johannes Laub, also expressed itself positively and emphasized the importance of such exercises for the safety of the students. "We want to do everything in our power to ensure security, because only if we are prepared for unexpected situations can we cope with them as harmlessly as possible," said Laub.

results and future outlook

Tobias Nadjib, the head of the press office of the Gifhorn district fire brigade, spoke about the need for interdisciplinary cooperation and how important it is to intensively train the processes at the interfaces between the emergency services. "We are well trained and well prepared, but working together makes the decisive difference," says Nadjib.

The results of this realistic exercise will now flow into the future training planning in order to constantly optimize cooperation and the operational strategies. Other similar exercises are already being planned to continue to prepare the emergency services for potential danger situations. Such measures could be decisive in an emergency to save lives and to strengthen the reactionability of the various organizations.
