Health mediators wanted: Your chance in Gifhorn!

Health mediators wanted: Your chance in Gifhorn!

In the Gifhorn district, the signs are to improve health information for migrants. The district is looking for people who act as health mediators and to provide low -threshold information on relevant health issues. This is done as part of the Gemigif health project, which has existed since 2008 and aims to enable culture -sensitive health prevention for immigrant citizens.

The Gemigif project has set itself the goal of strengthening migrants through direct address and personal information. The language barrier plays an important role here, which is why information is transmitted in the respective language of origin. In small lectures that take place in social institutions, accommodations for refugees or club rooms, topics such as family planning, breast cancer early detection or diabetes are treated.

training for interested parties

At the end of October, a new training for prospective health mediators starts. All interested parties who are willing to contribute their language skills and commitment can participate in this initiative. The prerequisites include solid knowledge of at least one foreign language and good knowledge of German at B2 level.

Previous knowledge in the health sector is an advantage, but not absolutely necessary. The training itself takes about 30 hours and is offered free of charge to the participants. If you are interested, you can contact integration@gifhorn.de directly by email or take part in an information evening that takes place on Tuesday, October 15, at 5:00 p.m. in the youth meeting place at Ludwig-Jahn-Straße 10 in Gifhorn.

This initiative helps to promote medical knowledge and awareness of health issues in migration, which is of great importance for the integration efforts in the region. The search for health mediators underlines the realization that people have specific needs for different cultural backgrounds and require a specific address.
