Bockhorner Karateka Jörg Aufarth: sixth at EM and new goals!
Gondomar, Portugal - The Bockhorner Karateka Jörg Aufarth caused a sensation at the "European Shotokan Karate-Do Championships" in Gondomar, Portugal! With an impressive sixth place, the 56-year-old has demonstrated his skills in the international competition and shows that he can still play at the front in the age group for over 40 years. This was his first time that he took part in an EM with the German national team, and the challenge was enormous.
Aufarth, who had qualified as a German runner -up in karate, fought through a strongly occupied field of participants. The competition was highly competitive, and in the semi -finals he was tied with the competitors in ranks four and five. But luck was not a hold: with just a tenth of points, he missed the finale. "It was really difficult to fight forward," he said. Despite the tight decision, he is more than satisfied with his placement.
successful German team
The German team shone with eight medals in total and secured the seventh place of 22 participating nations. Particularly noteworthy is the victory of the kata team in the performance class. However, Aufarth plans to withdraw from active competitive sports in order to concentrate on his role as a national coach. "The task as a national coach takes a lot of time and travel," says the Bockhorn. But one big goal remains: "I will definitely take part in the World Masters Games in Taiwan!"
