Lack of doctors in Jeverland: New concept for better care!

Jeverland, Deutschland - In Jeverland there is a red alarm level! A dramatic shortage of doctors threatens health care in the region. Dr. Markus Ennen from Schortens has now presented an innovative concept that is supposed to bring fresh wind to young talent. The solution? The Oldenburg Medical Curriculum, which is the key to saving medical care!

The situation is serious: there is not enough doctors throughout Friesland, and that affects all disciplines. Ennen, who has worked as a family doctor for 22 years, knows that the region urgently needs more doctors. "We have to bring the university, general practitioners and business development closer together," he demands. The teaching network of the University of Oldenburg, which includes 227 practices between the coast and Hanover, plays a central role in this. Six of these practices are in Jeverland, and the students spend valuable time in the region during their training.

unique teaching program

The Oldenburg Medical Curriculum is a real lighthouse project! The number of study places has increased from 40 to 120 since 2012, and from 2026 it should even be 200. "The focus is on the patient and the training is based on competence," explains Ennen. The students have to attend at least twice in the teaching practices to gain practical experience.

But there is a crucial sticking point: the accommodation of the hospitants. "Nobody commutes to Friesland from Oldenburg," warns Ennen. At the moment, the practices are organizing the accommodations themselves, often in simple accommodations such as the sailor mission in Wilhelmshaven. Here the doctor wants more support from politics. "We have an excellent infrastructure and many good teaching practices, but we have to keep the students in the region," he emphasizes. The challenge remains: How can you win the best talents for Jeverland and tie in the long term?
