Despite a slight reduction in the number of construction sites, commuters and residents are still severely affected, mainly due to the longer construction times.

Currently 14 construction sites are active in Osnabrück, which is a decline by two compared to the previous quarter. However, four new construction sites have already been announced for October 2024, which could further tighten the situation. The average duration of the construction work, which is now 203 days, is particularly worrying. This corresponds to an increase of 28 days compared to the previous quarter and leads to considerable inconvenience for those affected.

"We need more careful coordination of the construction sites and should also seriously consider alternative measures for full closure," says Graf. In the past, narrowed lanes or construction site lights have shown successes that should be used to minimize the burden of citizens.

The IHK calls for a more precise coordination of the different construction measures in order to keep disruptions and loads for road users as low as possible. "The different projects have to be better coordinated and prioritized to ensure a more smooth flow of traffic," continues Graf. In the coming months, the IHK wants to carefully pursue the development of the construction sites and continue to urge the traffic situation better.
