Refurbishment of the Moordeicher youth club: reopening for 2025 planned!
The renovation of the youth club No Moor in Moordeich is finally picking up speed after the construction started due to an increased groundwater level. According to the latest progress, there is hope that the work can be completed by the end of November 2024. The reopening of the popular meeting point is sought for early 2025.
In the future planning, the youth club should not only shine in new splendor, but should also be better prepared for heavy rain events. Against the background of the damage caused by heavy rain and an increase in groundwater in 2023, a comprehensive renovation and security concept was developed. The measures aim to make the premises more sustainable and to offer users more comfort.
New water management and improved room layout
Hayo Wilken, who is responsible for building entertainment, emphasizes that the renovation contains more than just cosmetic changes. Above all, the adjustments to the building technology are crucial: a newly installed water stop system will ensure that water is derived from heavy rain using pumps. This is done by drainage lines that lead to a collective shaft, supplemented by an emergency generator that keeps the pumps running in the event of a power failure.
The spatial redesign of the youth club is also considered an advantage. Jennifer Hormann, the head of the youth team, explains that the "café area" is now being greater and more open and the former PC area is converted into a social and meeting room. These adjustments are due to the change in use: Many young people bring their own laptops with them, so that classic computer workstations are less in demand.
Before the actual renovation, however, the challenge was to lower the groundwater level - a process that was delayed. Wilken explains that technical problems led to the original schedule being thrown back for a few weeks. Nevertheless, the work in the interior was preferred so that one should now be on schedule.
focus on accessibility and user needs
Another important aspect of the renovation is the creation of barrier -free toilets that were not previously available. These new facilities should benefit both visitors and employees. The municipality also had walls and floors checked for mold formation in order to exclude health risks. Fresh paint is also planned to make the rooms more inviting.
The anticipation for reopening grows: to celebrate the day, the community is planning a big party. A highlight is the "mini-no moor", which is interim in a classroom of the Lise-Meitner School and is already well received. While the construction work was running, Wilken is pleased with the harmonious cooperation between the community and the school and emphasizes that the burden could be mastered well during school operations.
The total cost of the renovation amounts to around 470,000 euros, with Wilken pointing out that they are in the planned budget. The community looks optimistic about the early completion and the opening, which is to take place after the Christmas holidays 2024.
