Brave donation trip to Ukraine: Air strikes experienced up close!

Andreas Pörschke, a committed helper, and his companions returned from an extensive donation tour to Ukraine to Diepholz. This challenging tour included a distance of 5,850 kilometers and started on New Year's Eve. The aim of the trip was to hand over urgently needed donations, including sweets, clothing and medical device, in the eastern Ukrainian city of Charkiw.

Pörschke, who traveled to Ukraine for the third time, brought the relief supplies to homes for children and evacuated people. His companions who come from Ukraine supported him in overcoming language barriers and facilitating contact on site. However, the tour was not without dangers: Pörschke experienced a nightly air raid during the trip and got lost near the war front.

During an air alarm, the navigation devices did not work due to the lack of GPS signals. Pörschke landed on a checkpoint about ten kilometers from the front line and was sent back by Ukrainian soldiers. On the way back, he and his companions between Kharkiw and Poltawa experienced a Russian air raid, in which an explosion could be heard nearby.

In contrast to the way, there was no problems on the return journey on the Ukrainian-Polish border. The aid campaign was recognized in Ukrainian media, including a contribution in a nationwide television station. In view of the positive response, Pörschke plans to organize another donation tour to Ukraine this year in order to continue to help the local people, such as Radio Free Europe/Rady Liberty Despite the progress of the Russian troops, some of which receive support from North Korea, Ukraine claims that it continues to keep significant control over strategic areas and has made concrete progress.
