Men's singing club Heede dissolves - but the melodies continue to live!

The men's singing club (MGV) Heede made a drastic decision in its last meeting: the association will be dissolved at the end of the year. This significant event was unanimously decided, but there were some abstentions in this decision. While the resolution represents a sad turn in the 70-year history of the choir, the members nevertheless discuss how they can continue their passion for singing in the future.

The general assembly took place in the Hotel Castendiek and started approval of the agenda. Under the chairmanship of Heinrich Lehmann, the protocols of the last meeting were read out and even a new board was elected, which underlines the tradition of the MGV Heede. Wilhelm Leymann, who was awarded for his 70-year singing activity, was particularly gratifying. He received this award on behalf of the Lower Saxony-Bremen Choir Association with a certificate and the medal in gold. Heinrich Lehmann himself was honored for ten years of board work, which shows that the club management is very committed.

honors and review of the history of the club

For many of the members, the honor of Leymann was an emotional moment because they not only celebrated his long effort, but also reflected the unstoppable decline in the active musicians in recent years. The choir director Danilo Sodogé clearly expressed the club's dilemma: "We are no longer able to appear", he stated and referred to the fact that only seven singers were present at the last meeting. These developments make it clear how the framework conditions for the MGV have changed over the years.

Nevertheless, the mood in the meeting was not completely shaped by sadness. Many members were optimistic. The proposal to found a "singing group" was supported by several people present. "The joy of singing should not end", emphasized that even if the MGV no longer exists, the possibility of singing together remains.

options for the future

Another positive aspect of the evening was the discussion about the possibilities that are open to the remaining singers. An idea was to participate in the rehearsals of the Brockum men's singing club, where Danilo Sodogé also acts as choir director. "We have about 18 active singers in Brockum," said Sodogé. The idea that some singers were able to travel to the neighboring town to continue to live out their love for singing offers a perspective for the future.

The possibility was also discussed to form carpools in order to continue to maintain singing in a common festival. "It seems that a change to Brockum is conceivable for some singers," confirmed Heinrich Lehmann, and that leaves space for a positive development, even if the formal association is dissolved.

The last singing in Heede is planned for December 18, and the members want to celebrate this event properly, while at the same time maintaining the tradition of the MGV until the last day. Even if an era comes to an end, the discussion rounds show that many are willing to leave the passion and joy of singing simply behind, but look for new ways to continue living out this passion in the shared framework.
