Generations united: Barnstorf celebrates the Generation Bridge!

in Barnstorf, where generations meet, the German Red Cross has launched an exciting project: the "generation bridge". Here the tape between seniors and children is strengthened, in a very special way! In a unique cooperation between the retirement home and the Holzwurm daycare center, preschool children and seniors of full -inpaution long -term care meet every Friday for one and a half hours full of fun and joint activities.

The initiators, Cristin Wiegmann from the daycare center and Katharina Hedges from the retirement home, emphasize the importance more regularly. "Fixed groups come together that actively participate," explains Wiegmann. At these meetings, sung, baked and even walks are sung together. "It is a joint project at eye level," said the two. And the best? The project has now also been officially certified by the generation bridge Germany, which underlines the importance and success of this initiative!

unique encounters between young and old

The basic idea of the "Generation Bridge" is clear: bringing children and seniors together to promote valuable relationships. Many children have no grandparents nearby, while more and more older people live without grandchildren. The regular and structured encounters create a trusting atmosphere in which both sides benefit. The seniors are more flexible and remember the beautiful experiences with the children despite dementia. "It is astonishing how many conversations are created with each other," Wiegmann summarizes the beautiful cooperation.

This project is not only a win for the participants, but also a shining example of the power of the community. The "Generation Bridge" in Barnstorf shows how valuable the exchange between the generations can be and how much joy and understanding arises!
