Lieutenant General Vetter talks to Diepholz about digital defense

In an interesting event, Lieutenant General Michael Vetter, former commander of the Diepholz pilot, will give a lecture on October 24th. The topic of the lecture, which takes place in the Casino of the Fliegerhorst, is: "Time turning also in the cyber and information room- challenge for the Bundeswehr". The aim is to discuss the current situation and the challenges associated with the new fourth partial dispute of the Bundeswehr, the cyber and information room (CIR).

The Bundeswehr, traditionally divided into the areas of army, navy and air force, has added another important area since May 1, 2024. The cyber and information room, also known as CIR, now receives the same meaning as the classic sub-forces. This decision reflects the growing importance of digital skills in modern warfare. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said a few months ago that the Bundeswehr had to be "digitally warlike" - a clear order to the new partial dispute.

The mission in the cyber and information room

The cyber space is described as the virtual space of all IT systems worldwide in which information is traded. The Internet forms the foundation of this room. The information space, on the other hand, refers to the environment in which information generates, processed and interpreted. These two areas are of central importance for the Bundeswehr, especially in the context of the constantly changing digital environment, which quickly spreads and manipulated information.

Lieutenant General Vetter, who has been head of the Cyber/Information Technology department in the Federal Ministry of Defense since April 2019, has had an impressive career in the Bundeswehr. He joined the Bundeswehr in 1982, studied economic and organizational sciences and held numerous management positions. Among other things, he was the commander of the Air Force Responsibility Regiment 2 in Diepholz and responsible for the logistical support of the Bundeswehr in Wilhelmshaven. His knowledge and experience in this area will certainly help to define the challenges of the CIR more clearly in the lecture.

The event is accessible to everyone interested, but prior registration is required. Admission begins at 5:45 p.m. and the lecture at 6 p.m. Following the lecture, a discussion round will take place in which the audience has the opportunity to ask questions and actively take part in the dialogue about the challenges of the cyber and information space.

For registration for the event, interested parties can call the number 05441 590 2061 or send an email to Wasysustgz2zentralenveranstungen@bundeswehr.org.

In view of the current geopolitical situations and the increasing cyber threats, this lecture will undoubtedly be of great interest to better understand the strategy and future developments of the Bundeswehr in the cyber area. With his expertise, Vetter will give an exciting insight into the modern challenges of the Bundeswehr.

Lieutenant General Vetter will inform the audience of how the Bundeswehr can adapt to this new reality and intervene in order to guarantee national security. These developments are crucial, not only for the Bundeswehr, but also for the entire society that lives in an always networked environment.
