District King's Ball in Varrel: Shooters celebrate successes and honors!

The District King's Ball, which took place last Saturday in Varrel, not only offered an excellent opportunity for socializing, but also a platform to honor outstanding achievements in shooting sports. The event, which took place at the Hartje-Melloh guesthouse, had an impressive number of participants, who even took up the space behind the stage to accommodate the over 20 clubs in the county of Diepholz.

President Karl-Friedrich Scharrelmann opened the celebrations, supported by the band “Sweet Dreams”, who provided the musical atmosphere. He welcomed numerous guests of honor, including the 2024 State Vice Queen of the Northwest German Rifle Association (NWDSB), Doris Hülsmann, as well as the district queen Saskia Langhorst and the district youth queen Jella Rohlfing. The anticipation for the upcoming State Royal Ball, which will take place at the same location next year, was palpable.

Honors for shooting athletes

Another important part of the evening was the honoring of successful shooting athletes by district sports director Siegfried Brockmann. The exceptional achievements of the athletes at the North German Cup, the Lower Saxony State Championship and the German Championship were honored in a celebratory ceremony. Brockmann, supported by Britta Löhmann, Cord Borchers-Rode and Gerd Harzmeier, asked those present to concentrate on the honor for half an hour. In addition, his 40-year tenure as district sports director, during which he worked tirelessly for the district, was recognized with a certificate of honor.

A highlight of the evening was the ceremonial entry of the 26 royal couples, who were called individually to the music of the band to receive their commemorative pin. The appearance of the royal couple from Brockum, accompanied by a court jester, was particularly impressive. With the question “Do you feel like partying?” the band kicked off the social part of the evening, which lasted until the early hours of the morning. “Of course we want to!”, one could summarize the mood of those present and confirm that, in addition to shooting, celebration and socializing are also very important in the shooting club.
