Demolition of the old ice cream parlor in Wagenfeld: The new village square is created!

In the small community of Wagenfeld, planning for a new village square is currently in full swing. Mayor Matthias Kreye and construction manager Dennis Härtel recently announced euphorically that all the necessary land for the project was successfully acquired. The old ice cream parlor and the traditional Altenwerth business in the city center are now in parish seat, which is an important step for the renovation of the town.

The demolition of the unused buildings is scheduled for mid -October and is said to be completed by the end of November. Kreye explains that this is a quick measure to immediately release the area for a redesign. In the coming months, the first phase of the project, the demolition of the old buildings, will pave the way for the new place.

funding and financing of the project

This project is part of the larger initiative for the renovation of the town center, which is funded by the federal and state governments by the "Living Centers" funding program. Overall, costs of around 7.69 million euros are planned for the extensive renovation, which extends over a period of approximately ten years. The municipality itself has to bear a share of 2.56 million euros, while the remaining funds are provided by the federal and state governments.

For the demolition work and the acquisition of the property, over one million euros are planned in the cost planning that has already been approved. There are also 400,000 euros available for the design of the new village square - a considerable amount that should ensure that future use of the space meets the needs of residents.

The progress in the project is gratifying, especially after an agreement was reached in November 2021 with the owner of a neighboring house. The owner had housed its tenants into new apartments, which is an important prerequisite for construction. Mayor Kreye noticed that the building at the access to the church was already acquired in 2019, which is considered an important step in the development of the project.

cooperation with the municipality

The schedule provides that after the demolition, the lawn is sown and a small hedge is planted along Oppenweher Straße. This is intended to prevent the area from being misused as a parking lot and at the same time enhance the appearance. After Christmas, an exchange with the residents is planned to take into account their wishes and ideas for the design of the new place. The residents, including the pharmacist Gerdfried Rüter and the parish, will have the opportunity to bring in their ideas.

The final design planning is expected to be treated at the beginning of next year in a council meeting. The anticipation of the redesign is great, since the new village square should in future be a meeting point for the citizens of Wagenfeld, which will promote social interaction and strengthen the community. According to Kreye, the entire planning is carefully carried out and, with the involvement of the residents, to guarantee optimal use.

In addition to the demolition work, other projects are also intended as part of the integrated urban development concept (ISEK). This includes the renovation of the school yard of the Auburg School and the upgrading of the Park de Vibraye. These measures should not only benefit the municipality, but also to the public and increase the quality of life in Wagenfeld.

A comprehensive overview of all aspects of the local core renovation can be read in the official reports and communications from the community. The progress and the shared decisions offer a promising view of a positive change in the heart of Wagenfeld.
