Just four years ago, the rent was 6.91 euros per square meter. A price increase of over 16 percent, which means a surcharge of 90.40 euros for an 80 square meter apartment. The highlight was reached in the third quarter of 2023 with 8.14 euros per square meter.

The situation on the housing market is explosive: In a search in early November, our reporters found only 36 rental apartments in the 82,000-inhabitant city! The cheapest option? A narrow room of 32.14 square meters for 273.19 euros in an old row house. The most expensive apartment? A three -room object with 63 square meters for an incredible 1,450 euros! At the same time, 30 condominiums are on offer, with prices between 85,000 and 349,900 euros.

New rent index for more transparency!

In order to counteract the tense situation, the city of Delmenhorst presented an official rent index at the beginning of the year. This new instrument is intended to help both tenants and landlords to determine the local comparative rent. An evaluation of 1,138 tenancy showed that an apartment costs an average of 6.79 euros in terms of cold rent per square meter.
