Kitesurfers in Sahlenburg demand more parking spaces on the beach!

in Sahlenburg it is bubbling! The construction work for the new dune pond is scheduled to start in 2027/28 and the water sports enthusiasts face a real challenge. The much sought -after parking spaces directly on Sahlenburger Strand, which use kitesurfers and other water sports enthusiasts during flood times, are no longer taken into account in the new plans. Instead, the parking lot behind the water sports center is enlarged at the "Kliff" café restaurant, but the 42 parking spaces are too little for the water sports enthusiasts!

The new dike construction plans promise improvements in coastal protection and quality of stay, but many water sports enthusiasts feel over. "We understand the concerns of kitesurfers, but dyke construction requires compromises," says city building council Eickmann. Nature conservation and security have a top priority, and the previous plans have been adjusted accordingly. The kitesurfers now hope for a dialogue with those responsible to find practical solutions for the transport of their bulky equipment.

parking problem and solutions

Councilor Andreas Wichmann (SPD) has clear demands: "We need 80 to 100 parking spaces for the water sports enthusiasts there." Eickmann promised to check the opportunities for additional parking spaces. But the reality looks different: there are only a few trees and bushes on the former location of the naval tower that could be removed, but whether that is enough for 100 parking spaces is questionable. "The water athletes do not need a parking space that is used 365 days a year 24/7," explains Eickmann and describes the 42 promised places as "good house number".

The administration also plans a delivery zone on the water with containers, where the kiters can store their equipment. But Sebastian Schlagmann, deputy mayor, sees this solution critically: "The area has been a location for water sports enthusiasts for 50 years. You want to park as close as possible to the water." Anja Stute from the nature conservation authority warns: "Every parking lot is an intervention in nature." The Wernerwald is a valuable place for many, and the needs of all users must be taken into account in the planning.
