Young people from Cuxhaven fight for peace and friendship in Kreisau

As part of the trilateral Triyou project, 13 students from the Lichtenberg High School Cuxhaven took part in an exchange with young people from Ukraine and Poland. The event took place in the international meeting place in Kreisau and lasted a week, such as cnv-medien.de reported.

The exchange began with an evening where the participants presented their countries and schools. The differences in everyday school life of the Ukrainian students from Saporischschja, who have been faced with home schooling since the beginning of the war and have received an underground school, were particularly striking. A new Russian rocket attack occurred during the stay in Kreisau, which also illustrated the situation of the Ukrainian youngsters.

projects and workshops

The Ukrainian young people actively participated in the project and taught the other participants a traditional dance. In workshops, topics such as cross -border family history, multiculturalism and discrimination were dealt with. The participants worked in mixed groups and communicated in English.

Kreisau has a historical importance, since the resistance group "Kreisauer Kreis" met between 1940 and 1944. The resistance to the National Socialist regime and reconciliation policy were treated with a focus on the resistance. In addition, the group attended an exhibition and the large-roses concentration camp, with the impressions of these visits to have a sustainable influence on the participants. There were also many opportunities for exchange between other activities, such as visiting the Friedenskirche in Schweidnitz and trying Polish dishes in Wroclaw.

After the return, the pupils presented their experiences in the form of video sequences to the 8th and 10th year of the Lichtenberg-Gymnasium. The aim is to continue to send a delegation to Kreisau in the future to gain experience and make friendships.

The Triyou program, which enables student exchanges between Germany, Poland and Ukraine, has significantly gained importance in Ukraine. The collaboration has been funded since the founding of the German-Polish Youth Work (DPJW), and projects are subsidized from the Federal Foreign Office, such as dpjw.org

As part of the DPJW, exchange projects have different thematic focuses and formats. Due to the trilateral partnership, the organizations want to promote an active exchange, mutual getting to know each other and intercultural learning. In view of the war against Ukraine, the DPJW does not support any projects with Russia and Belarus, but focuses on working with young people in a further European context.
