St. Josefs Hospital Cloppenburg requested protective shield procedure: what now?

Cloppenburg, Deutschland - The St. Josefs Hospital Cloppenburg is on the abyss! With a dramatic application for a protective shield procedure at the District Court of Cloppenburg, the clinic is trying to save itself from the impending bankruptcy. The sister Euthymia Foundation, to which the hospital belongs, has published these alarming news.

In a meeting, the approximately 860 employees were informed about the critical situation on Monday. But there is a bright spot: thanks to the pre -financing of the bankruptcy money by the employment agency, the salaries are secured by the end of January 2025! From February, wages will then be paid out directly from the hospital. In the meantime, patient care remains unaffected, both inpatient and outpatient. Even the new building of the hospital is continued as planned - a glimmer of hope in the middle of the crisis!

causes of the crisis

Andreas Krone, Managing Director of St. Josefs Hospital Cloppenburg, names the alarming cost increases as the main reason for the financial misery. In the past two years, the increasing property and personnel costs have not been compensated for by corresponding remuneration incidents, which has led to a dangerous structural underfunding. The possibilities for the procurement of additional funds are already exhausted after the medical center and the community psychiatric center have been sold.

In the protective shield procedure, Stefan Denkhaus and Friedemann Schade take over the authorization. Lawyer Rainer Eckert will monitor the procedure as a provisional administrator and represent the interests of the creditors. In the coming weeks, a restructuring plan will be developed to lead the clinic out of the crisis. Time is pushing and the future of the St. Josefs Hospital is on the brink!
