Air conditioning Uwe quantity says goodbye to Juist after 50 years!

Uwe Züm, who worked as a guest flight instructor for over half a century, was recently ceremoniously adolting to Juist on the North Sea island of Juist. Although he never lived there, he has been closely connected to the youth education center Theodor Wuppermann (Jubi) for 60 years. His first single flight took place on Juist in 1964, and ten years later he was appointed as a guest flight instructor as a Jubi team.

Uwe Züm, born in Celle in 1948, spent his entire professional career in the automotive industry at VW. It was not until 2004 that he went into early retirement, which gave him more time for his passion, flying. Every year he sacrificed two weeks of his vacation to fly to Juist and to promote the training of numerous prospective pilots. In the past 50 years, a lot has led around 90 courses and spent more than 2,700 hours in the air.

The special role as a guest flight instructor

During his time as a guest flight instructor, a lot was not only an active instructor, but also a link between the theory and practical application in air sports. He flies on a voluntary basis and receives accommodation and meals in exchange for his lessons. He motivated him the passion for flying that he wanted to share with the future pilots. "We guest flight instructors all fly in clubs. We just love to fly," says Müb.

A highlight of his career was permission to lead another course at the age of 75 in order to complete his remarkable service. The farewell evening, which was organized by colleagues and jubi director Jörg Bohn, made him emotionally. "It was a moving moment when I completed my last flight with a student," he reflected with a touch of melancholy.

Although he will no longer work as a flight instructor for health reasons, plans to continue traveling to Juist regularly to participate in the maintenance of the planes together with his partner Inge Leppin. However, he does not see himself in the role of the teacher, even if flying is still important to him.

The aviation also employs Uwe Quante in retirement; As long as he passes the medical tests, he will continue to fly in Wilsche, the place of his lives. "I am looking forward to the fact that I was able to bring flying closer to many young people. However, I regret that fewer and fewer people are interested in a flight instructor's license," he added. In this context, MISS MISURE that the Jubi is constantly looking for new flight instructors to meet the demand for training.

quantity is not only an influential part of the jubi history, but also a living connection to the beginnings of glider training and to all significant changes in the organization. He was one of the last survivors who witnessed all of these developments up close. The memories of his friends and colleagues, including the late Hans Kolde, remain alive for him. "I have a lot of nice memories and I will always honor the time with these wonderful people," Castle Quantity.

Now Uwe quantity returns to Wilsche in the winter months, still full of memories of the time on Juist. It is noteworthy that he only entered the island in his long commitment to flight lessons in emergencies, and the return trip was also done by plane.
