Tax rebel from Westerstede: Becker fights against spouse splitting!

Reina Becker from Westerstede has been a passionate fighter for a fairer taxation for years. The tax advisor has spoken out particularly against spouse splitting and the child allowances, which she perceives unjust for single parents and parents. Despite a defeat in front of the Federal Fiscal Court, she continues her struggle, which polarizes many people: While some consider them to be annoyed, others see her as a real heroine.

In June there was an oral hearing on the subject of spouse splitting, in which Becker was personally present. This regulation, which families disadvantaged with a parent, is the focus of their criticism. After the death of her husband, she sees herself considerably disadvantaged as a single mother compared to income relationships with both parents. "We used to pay 35 percent. She does not want to accept these experiences and continues to fight for changes in the tax system.

In the current procedure, in front of the Federal Finance Court in Munich, Becker and her colleague Dr. Heiko Haupt, who she represented there as a legal representative, did not successfully. "Unfortunately, the court dismissed our complaint about the splitting exclusion," she reports disappointed. At the same time, the Federal Constitutional Court did not allow another complaint to the child allowances, which made the struggle for justice even more difficult for many parents.

BECKER refers to the curiosity of the current regulations: "It is difficult to understand that families with father, mother and child are better put in terms of tax than single parents." Eliminating this injustice is an important goal for them, even if the legal path is very rocky. She has the impression that politics, both under the grand coalition and under the traffic light coalition, do not want to tackle the problem.

a tireless struggle for justice

Despite the setbacks, Reina Becker remains optimistic and has been looking for contact with the federal government. Together with Dr. Heiko Haupt wants to advance the procedure for child allowances, even if it can still be connected for years. "We have to continue there," she says determined and cannot be discouraged. The support of specialist colleagues and the public are important to her.

The negotiations in Munich not only have legal importance, but also social weight. "Such an important question deserves to be discussed publicly," she says about the role of the Federal Fiscal Court. However, this conviction was quickly undermined in the trial when her planned lecture was abruptly interrupted by the presiding judge. "I didn't find that fair," said Becker. Her explanations on the injustice of the splitting model have not been heard, which underlined their fears that the case would not be decided in their favor.

Becker hopes that your attempts to draw attention to these grievances will ultimately lead to changes in legislation. Their goal remains to put both single parents and unmarried couples into the focus of the political discussion. "There is a lot of talk about family support, but reality looks different," she says and demands comprehensive reforms in the tax system.

A deeper insight into the current developments and the relevance of these topics is important for many parents who are in a similar situation as Becker. Her voice is part of the ongoing dialogue about justice and fairness in taxation, which can be decisive for the future of many families.
