Rental prices in Germany: Who bears the highest load?
In the current debate on the topic of living, it becomes clear that women in particular are affected by the challenges of the rental market. According to the publications of gbv.at Living 53% of all tenants of non-profit housing associations in Austria in households with female main earners. The proportion of single mothers who live with their children in one of the 998,000 apartments of this association is particularly high. While only 10% of the total population are single parent, this proportion is 10% in the non -profit form of living, which indicates a significant social challenge.
rising housing costs and rental loads
The living situation in Germany also shows alarming trends. According to bpb.de , tenant households in 2022 have to use average around 27.9% of their income for gross rent. This shows an increasing tendency compared to the 27.0%that were still paid in 2006. One -person households, the rental stress of which is 32.7%, are particularly affected by the high housing costs. It has also been shown that almost 8% of households have to raise more than half of their income for rent, which indicates a worrying financial burden.
The rental prices vary significantly depending on the place of residence, whereby large cities with a gross rent of around 9.60 euros per square meter have the highest loads. In the top 7 metropolises, tenant households must even spend 29.3% of their income on rent, which underlines the urgency of the topic. Overall, it can be seen that the housing costs are hardly portable for disadvantaged groups, especially single mothers and younger households.
