Wismarer survives stomach cancer: self -help group for those affected
Wismar. A stroke of fate that changed the life of a man forever: Stefan Biebernick, 63, received the shocking diagnosis three years ago Gastric cancer. "Drive home and make your will!" - These words still hall in his head. After a life -saving operation, in which the stomach was completely removed, he got into a new life without stomach. But the challenges are enormous!
Stefan decided not to keep his experience to himself. The founding meeting of his self -help group will take place on November 12, where he wants to offer other affected people valuable information about life without stomach. He is supported by the ASB contact and information center for self-help groups and the Sana Hanse-Klinikum, which provides expert knowledge. The first meeting begins at 2 p.m. in Dorfstraße 10 in Gägelow.
The Wismarer no longer knows
After the operation, Stefan learned to deal with his new reality. "I don't know hunger anymore. But I still have an appetite," he explains. He can eat everything, but has to eat small portions because the space in the new digestive system is limited. The production of the vital vitamins B12 is also no longer possible without stomach, which is why it needs injections regularly. Despite all the challenges, he has improved his quality of life and can now cycle and swim again - if only for a short time.
Stefan hopes that his self-help group will encourage others and support them in coping with their new life situation. "After staying the clinic, you have to take care of yourself at home and have many questions," he emphasizes. His own journey shows that it is possible without stomach to live a fulfilling life - "you can grow old even without stomach". With the support of his family and five grandchildren, he has set small goals that give him strength.
