Clean stumbling blocks: Wismar is commemorating the Nazi victim on November 9th!
On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Hanseatic city of Wismar becomes the scene of a moving commemoration! Stolperstein sponsors, pupils of the Gerhart Hauptmann-Gymnasium and members of the Wismar initiative "Grandma's against Right" come together to clean the stumbling blocks in the old town. This action is more than just a cute initiative - it is a powerful sign against forgetting and a warning to the atrocities of National Socialism!
The group meets at 11:00 a.m. at the Wismar town hall, ready to make the memorial stones shine with cleaning agents and brushes. Each stumbling block tells the tragic story of a victim who was persecuted and murdered during the Nazi era. These special stones, which was created by the artist Gunter, are embedded directly before the last place of residence or work of the victims and bear their names and fate. An urgent look into the past that affects us all!
meaning of the date
The date could not be more symbolic: it reminds of the Reichspogromnacht from 1938 when a wave of violence against the Jewish population broke out over Germany. Cleaning stumbling block becomes an important signal for a conscious examination of our history. Everyone can participate, previous knowledge is not necessary and the required material is provided. Take part and show that the memory of the persecuted remains alive!
