Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) paid tribute to the importance of those who cited a peaceful revolution and overthrown the dictatorship. "Life in a united country in peace, freedom and democracy is anything but a matter of course," says Schwesig. She emphasized that the living conditions in the east still stay behind that in the West and called for further efforts for equivalent conditions.

The incoming topic of the effects of reunification on the people in the east was also a central point in Scholz. "We should never forget and talk small, which has been done in the east since 1990," he confirmed.

Scholz about the political landscape and the future

In his speech, Scholz also addressed the worrying election results, in which more and more voters are increasing authoritarian and national radical currents.
