Ball drama on the Schaabe: Christmas tree without shine and joy!
In the tranquil pre -Christmas period on the island of Rügen, a couple from Altenkirchen were confronted with an unpleasant surprise. Annegret and Uwe Staudt found their lovingly decorated tree almost bare on the popular Schaabe, where conifers are decorated with colorful Christmas balls in a festive tradition. Instead of the bright balls, only a few orphaned hung after unknown perpetrators had torn down a large part of the jewelry. The Staudts were desperate, because for them it was not only the material value that was lost, but the ideal value and the joy that this tradition brought with it, like Ostsee-Zeitung reported.
A call to the Christmas tradition
The frustration over the loss was great - Annegret even pushed out the idea of taking off the remaining balls at first. Her husband Uwe drove back to look and found that the wind was not to blame; The neighboring trees were still decorated. But there is hope: Thesy Thesenvitz, who has been making the balls available for jewelry campaign for many years, has new supplies in their "ball bearing". It offers the couple to get a replacement so that the tradition can be continued. "It is important that the trees are decorated so that everyone can enjoy their sight," said Thesenvitz. In a target of 200 decorated trees, she hopes for support from the community, as in the warm Christmas story of Viabilia in which every ball has its own history and meaning.
The Staudts are determined to buy new balls and decorate their tree again. "We want others to enjoy the sight of the decorated Schaabe," they explain. They remember a little suspicious of marking their new balls with their names to prevent further losses. The hope remains that the festive atmosphere will return and that the magical period of the Advent is not overshadowed by inconvenience.
