Traditional fire-fighting boat FLB-40: Rescue for the young seafaring!
The traditional fire-fighting boat FLB-40 in Rostock will be used in the future for youth work, training and charitable offers. In December 2024, the association "Tradition Ship FLB 40-3" received funding of 50,000 euros from the state to support these goals. Cooperation with the youth cutter Likedeeler is expanded to bring children and adolescents closer to life at sea. The Warnemünde Seeplahrtschule also participates and offers its students practical and security training, such as "https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/mecklenburg-vorpommern/rostock/traditions-feuer-feuer-fuer-seefahrts-jahrts- afternoon reported.
The association was founded on November 30, 2019 with the aim of maintaining the fire extinguishing boat in driving and demonstrating the fire extinguishing technology from then to this day. Another focus of the association's work is to promote youth work in voluntary fire departments and professionally maritime institutions. This also includes day trips to impart sea experiences as well as ship tours and technical demonstrations. history and meaning of the fire extinguishing boat
The fire extinguishing boat FLB 40-3 was put into service on September 28, 1983 and initially served the company fire brigade of the Rostock overseas port. The third boat in his class played a central role in security and fire protection in the GDR ports. Together with the other boats FLB 40-1 and FLB 40-2, FLB 40-3 was ready for use at any time. It took part in various missions, including combating a engine room fire at the MS "Bussard" in 1985 and was also alerted to fire fighting on the ferry "Lisco Gloria" in 2010. Despite the challenges such as the procurement of spare parts and a shortage of skilled workers, the boat was integrated into the Rostock professional fire brigade after the turn. After 35 years of active service, FLB 40-3 was decommissioned on October 28, 2018.
