Unknowns steal valuable bronze bust from Neubrandenburg retirement home
In a shocking incident, the bronze bust of the French nun Elisabeth Rivet was stolen in Neubrandenburg. The approximately 30 kilogram statue was in the foyer of a nursing home in Heidmühlenstrasse and was stolen on Sunday between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., as the local authorities confirm. The bust is reminiscent of Rivet's heroic deed during the Nazi era when it sacrificed herself in the Ravensbrück concentration camp to save the life of a young mother and child. The old people's home, which belongs to Caritas, has already reported the theft to the police and asks for information from the population, while the facility manager Julia Just appeals to the conscience of the perpetrators to recognize the importance of this statue that goes far beyond a work of art. href = "https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/mecklenburg-vorpommern/haff-mueritz/unknten-stehlen-bronzebueste-aus-altenheim-neubrandenburg-mvregioneubion18888.html"> NDR .
a legacy of courage
While the city of neubrandenburg deals with this art theft, the memory of brave personalities such as Elisabeth Rivet and Edith Stein is essential. Edith Stein, who is known as a philosopher and bridge builder between religions, was murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp 80 years ago. Stein, born as Jewin, converted to Christianity and was raised to the saint. For life, she defended herself against the persecution of the Jews and even tried to influence the church to stand up against the atrocities. Her writer career ended abruptly with the seizure of power of the National Socialists, who prohibited her teaching. Nevertheless, she was looking for admission to the monastery, where she passed on her spiritual heritage, reports
