Sports hall in Neubrandenburg: Water damage forces to close!

In the Neubrandenburg Oststadt it has become silent-the sports hall on Robert-Koch-Straße remains closed for the time being! The doors have been tight since September 20, and on October 21, the final decommissioning was announced. The reason? A catastrophic water damage caused by a defective rainfall line. The parquet floor of the hall was almost completely under water, which has led to massive damage. The Neubrandenburger Wohnungsgesellschaft (Neuwoges) explains that a renewal of the hall floor is not possible due to further structural defects.

clubs and schools affected

The consequences are dramatic: numerous sports clubs, two schools and social institutions such as kindergartens are affected by the sudden closure. The users of the hall were terminated without notice. Stefan Köpke, the city's sports coordinator, assures that alternative training opportunities for those affected are provided. Nevertheless, the uncertainty about the future of the hall remains.

The Neuwoges works on solutions together with the city. Three options are under discussion: the renovation and modernization of the hall, the demolition and new building or a temporary repair for a maximum of five years. But no matter which variant is chosen, the planning will be used at least one year, followed by a implementation time of one to two years. A reopening in the next two years is therefore excluded.

The Neuwoges has been the owner of the sports hall since October 2018 and has already carried out numerous renovation measures. Originally, the area was to be supplied with another use, but due to the high need for indoor times, the operation was maintained. The hall even served as emergency accommodation for refugees from Ukraine. But now the doors of the sports hall stand still - and the future is uncertain.
