The original decision to accept the flag had triggered outrage not only in Neubrandenburg, but also nationwide. The applicant Tim Großmüller had justified the acceptance of crimes in which the rainbow flag was replaced by a swastika flag. But the wave of criticism was overwhelming and led to this quick turning turn.
Mayor Silvio Witt, who lives his homosexuality open and announced his resignation for May 2025, welcomed the new decision, but expressed concerns about the speed of the decisions.
