IHK calls for a quick expansion of the B96: quality of life and security in focus!
The B96, an important north-south connection for travelers from the south to Rügen and Usedom, has been the focus of transport policy for years. The bypasses along the route are particularly a central point of the discussion. According to MAZ online (Brandenburg), Neustrelitz and a sub-area in Neubrandenburg (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).
The B96 runs between Nassenheide and Neubrandenburg as a two -lane street, which leads through several smaller places. A current problem is the daily bottlenecks and security risks, with up to 14,000 vehicles that use the route. In order to meet these challenges, representatives of the IHK Potsdam and Neubrandenburg require the consistent expansion of the B96 and appeal to the new Brandenburg state government and the Ministry of Transport to treat expansion as a priority.
planned extensions and projects
Part of the measures is the expansion of the B96, which is firmly anchored in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan. The planned projects include the towns in Löwenberg/Teschendorf, Gransee, Fürstenberg, Weisdin, Usadel and Warlin. The planning approval procedure for the Löwenberg/Teschendorf bypass is currently underway. Fürstenberg has a lines specified by the Federal Ministry of Transport, which is considered a preferred variant. Mayor of Fürstenberg and Neustrelitz emphasize the immense importance of expansion for quality of life and economic development.
At the same time, there are also critical voices, such as those of the "B96 expansion: not like that!", which warns of possible negative effects on the landscape. The Ministry of Transport in Potsdam is working with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on a comprehensive expansion concept.
The planned bypass is also considered in connection with project B 96 OU Teschendorf and OU Löwenberg. This project comprises a total length of 17.6 km and provides for both the two-lined and the four-lane new building, as on the website bvwp-projekte.de can be read. The project costs amount to gross 96.1 million euros, and a shortening of the travel time is sought.
The current analysis shows the B96 as a weak point, especially in terms of performance and traffic safety. The Löwenberg passage in particular has a twice as high accident rate as the national average. The construction measures are now essential to improve the accessibility and infrastructure between the centers and to optimize regional transport links.
