Fight for the Mayor's office: Who is going to Neubrandenburg to the future?
A dramatic power struggle unfolds in the CDU Neubrandenburg! With the surprising resignation of Mayor Silvio Witt on October 10, after the controversial decision to the rainbow flag, the signs are on change. Now two candidates are entering the ring: Björn Bromberger, the chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Mecklenburg Seenplatte district council, and Frank Benischke, Managing Director of Neuwoges. Both want to succeed in May 2025 and direct the city's fortunes.
Björn Bromberger officially confirmed his ambitions on Monday and emphasizes that Neubrandenburg needs leaders in these turbulent times that work for the city every day. In a letter to the CDU board, the 36-year-old teacher emphasizes that he has already demonstrated his commitment in the 2019 and 2024 local elections as well as in his 2021 state election. "The Neubrandenburgers give me their trust," said Bromberger, who can come up with a strong first votes in the last election.
Strong faction and bridge bauer
The CDU was able to take second place behind the AfD with 17.93 percent in the local elections in summer 2024, but has formed the strongest fraction in the city council by joining two other councilors. Bromberger emphasizes that his ability to build bridges even on difficult topics would be crucial for the role of the mayor. "To make future -oriented decisions together with the city council is my goal," he explains.
The Neubrandenburg CDU is faced with an exciting choice, and the citizens can look forward to a hot competition for the mayor's office!
