Lazy craftsmen save ailing bridge - cyclists can breathe a sigh of relief!

A dramatic adventure in lazy rust! Matthias Schliemann, passionate cyclist and master carpenter, not only took care of his own safety, but also the ailing wooden bridge, which cyclists endangered. The bridge that crosses the country road from lazy rust to Malchin was in such a bad condition that there was a closure in the room. But Schliemann did not let himself be discouraged and grabbed the challenge!

Together with three craftsman friends-Matthias Kadow, Marcel Normann and Michael Nehls-he repaired the bridge on his own. "We examined the vulnerability of the bridge closely and received the approval of the office and the municipality to carry out the repair itself," reports Schliemann proudly. In just ten hours, a beam over seven meters long was replaced, which was already very worn out. The bridge was raised with a rack winch to get to the dilapidated wood. "Now everything is paletti and the bridge can be used again without hesitation," says the craftsman.

Cost and gratitude

The entire campaign cost the municipality of Faulenrost about 700 euros, a fraction of the costs that would have been incurred when a company was commissioned. Schliemann estimates that in this case the costs would have been ten times as high! But despite the success, there is a little downside: a thank you from the mayor or the municipal council. "It's a shame because we did our best," says Schliemann.
