Successful training: Lucas defies challenges in the country courtyard!

in Borrentin, south of Demmin, a 17-year-old boy with disabilities is trained as a specialist practitioner in agriculture. Lucas, who lives with a reading spelling weakness, has already completed the 9th grade at a special school and is now in the second year of training. Farmer Erik Franz, who trains the young man, remembers how Lucas was fascinated by work on the farm when I was nine and regularly helped during the holidays.

"Lucas was thrilled from the start and supported us during the holidays long before the training came up," says Franz. Despite Lucas', the farmer was never worried. "I didn't know for a long time that he was a special need. His practical work always convinced me." Lucas started in the 6th grade with internships in the yard, and it was soon clear that he would do his training here.

Challenges and support

Lucas is a motivated and hardworking trainee that works independently. Nevertheless, there are challenges, especially with the theory for the tractor driving license. "This is a big hurdle for him," notes Erik Franz. To support Lucas, he receives tutoring from an educational service provider from Neubrandenburg once a week, which helps him to improve his reading and writing skills.

The training is funded by the Neubrandenburg employment agency as part of the "Accompanied company training (BBA)" program, which relieves the country courtyard from part of the costs and Lucas offers targeted support. "It is important to focus on the strengths of young people," emphasizes Andreas Wegner, head of the employment agency. Lucas is a shining example of the potential that is in young people who need individual support.
