Stralsund celebrates the first state harvest festival: harvest balance and parade!
In the Hanseatic city of Stralsund there is a special event this weekend: for the first time in its history, the city is host of the state harvest festival. While in the past rural places for this traditionally agricultural festival were the scene, Stralsund brings a breath of fresh air to the celebrations with its maritime atmosphere.
The celebrations begin on Saturday morning. It starts with a musical event on the old market, where the hunting horn players from Bremerhagen meet their sounds. The historical perspective of relationships between city and country is also highlighted in a lecture in the town hall. These connections are still relevant today because Stralsund has large agricultural areas in the surrounding area and on Rügen. According to a speaker, 50 tenants manage the urban areas that extend over a total of around 7,200 hectares.
entertainment and traditional accents
The events offer a diverse program. In addition to various music groups that occur on the stage on the Old Market, an exciting tractor-free person against the machine will also take place on the port island. Television meteorologist Stefan Kreibohm gives special insights, which speaks in the town hall about the importance and emergence of peasant rules.
After the solemn service on Sunday morning in the Church of St. Nikolai, the official parade through the city will take place. This traditional path is led by the harvest crown. In the early afternoon at 2:00 p.m., the official program starts on the main stage, which promises new highlights with the tapping of the autumn festival beer of the Stralsund Störtebeker Brewer Brewer.
background to agriculture
In the previous year, the state harvest festival in Neu Kaliß, in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim, was organized. Traditionally, farmers use such an event to take stock of their harvest and present their achievements. This often happened in the presence of leading government representatives. This year Agricultural Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) is expected, which gives the occasion an additional political note.
This year's harvest was shaped by different yields. Agricultural companies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reported mixed results, which are caused by fluctuating milk prices and low prices for pork. These uncertainties are reflected in the concerns of farmers who also question the impression of political support and express criticism of the framework conditions.
Despite the challenges that the industry has been experiencing since the turn, the agricultural and nutritional goods economy remains one of the central economic sectors in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. However, the number of employees in this sector has dropped drastically. While over 200,000 people were still working in agriculture in 1989, today there are only about 25,000. This illustrates the profound change that the industry has and continues to go through.
The State Hernted Detail Festival in Stralsund will not only be a festival for the farmers in the region, but also a symbol of the adaptability and change in agricultural economy in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. www.welt.de.
