Wolgast introduces the spa levy: What vacationers now need to know!
Attention, holidaymakers and day guests! From next year, the city of Wolgast (Vorpommern-Greifswald) will ask for the cash register, because a spa tax will be introduced! This new regulation, which already applies on the popular island of Usedom, has recently been decided by the city council and will also affect the surrounding districts. The decision is no longer possible - Wolgast, together with Usedom, forms a model region in which the spa tax should contribute to the financing of public institutions and events for those seeking relaxation.
The spa tax is due from 2025, and this means that visitors are asked to pay for tourist attractions such as the zoo or the city museums. But don't panic! Not everyone who is traveling in Wolgast has to dig deep into their pockets. Anyone who comes to shopping or works on site is spared the delivery. Also assembly workers who only stay for one night are excluded.
Kurtaxe: This is how it works!
The amount of the spa tax will be at least 2.80 euros per day in the high season. Payment is made via machines or directly from the Wolgaster hosts such as hotels and pensions. In order to promote the levy, the city relies on incentives instead of strict controls. Ducks in tourist facilities or advantages in public transport could be possible incentives that are currently being discussed.
In the forecasts for the coming year, around 60,000 overnight stays will be expected, which could generate income of around 150,000 euros from the spa tax. Wolgast, the emerging city, shows that it is willing to invest in the tourist infrastructure and at the same time ask the visitors to the cash register! So be warned if you want to discover the beauty of Wolgast and the surrounding area - the spa levy is just around the corner!
