Justice in danger: Massive cuts threaten the rule of law and victim aid!

Alma Zadić, the Greens' judicial and constitutional spokeswoman, urgently warned of planned massive budget cuts in the judicial area, which could seriously endanger the progress in recent years. According to reports, the new government is imposed to save 15 percent of the ministries' factual expenses, which could lead to cuts of a total of 146 million euros. "These savings threaten the structure of our judiciary, victim aid, probation and important deradicizing measures," explains Zadić. In particular, the urgently needed renovations of the judicial facilities are on the brink, while at the same time in the Interior Ministry and in the state defense there are no cuts in the judgment, which could exacerbate the situation in the judicial area, such as apa ots reported.

At the same time, the current results of the Rule of Law Index 2024, published by World Justice Project, show that the rule of law is under pressure again worldwide, even if Germany is still in the upper area of the ranking. Due to a low deterioration in performance, Germany occupies fifth place out of 142 rated states, an index that is based on over 214,000 surveys. The worst rated countries are, among others, Venezuela and Myanmar, while Germany has had progress in the field of corruption fighting. Nevertheless, a slight deterioration in civil justice becomes visible in comparison to the last assessment, which underpins the judiciary, especially in the light of the impending budget cuts, as well as Brak

The current situation raises serious questions about the future of the judiciary, since legal support and financial support are decisive in order to protect the integrity of the judicial system. If the government coalition does not rethink the savings plans, this could result in systematic weaknesses in case law and in the entire judicial system.
