Young surfer from Wolfurt enthusiastically inspires on Lake Constance!

Jurij Scheibler, a 21-year-old athlete from Wolfurt, made a name for himself on the Surf Foil World Tour. This exciting discipline, which he inspired by an internet video five years ago, enables athletes to slide over the water with a special wing board. It depends on muscle strength, not on wind or waves. A hydrofoil lifts the board as soon as the driver creates sufficient propulsion through rhythmic pumps. The high initial investment for finished foilboards, however, gave Scheibler the decision to wish for a kit to become active.

in January 2025 Scheibler first started at a World Cup in Düsseldorf and completed the event in fourth place. This success was crowned in June by second place on Lake Garda. His next competition will take place from September 5th to 7th at Lake Traun in Upper Austria, which the athlete is looking forward to. Scheibler uses the technology of Wake Thieving to use the waves of motor boats, which enables it to achieve maximum speed with minimal energy expenditure. Much of his equipment is self -made, which not only saves him, but also gives creative control over the designs.

wake foiling in the trend

wake foiling has gained popularity in recent years and is easier for beginners to learn than traditional wakeboarding. This new type of water sports can be practiced behind various watercraft, including jet skis. Compared to wakeboarding, you don't need a special boat to get started, which significantly lowers the costs. Popular brands such as Phase Five, Liquid Force and Slingshot offer a variety of boards and foils, the prices of which can vary between USD 1,000 and 2,500.

  • The best wake foil packages:
    • Liquid Force Carbon Horizon + Nebula
    • Nebula Wake Foil Board
    • Slingshot Hover Glide (V3)
    • phase five chip package

To make sport on Lake Constance better known, Scheibler plans to offer courses and trial days in the future. He also wants a commitment to the foil industry because he wants to study biora resource management in Vienna from autumn.

water sports in Germany

water sports is not only popular in Germany, but is one of the most frequently operated leisure activities worldwide. According to statistics, around 630,000 people in Germany regularly operated water sports in Germany, which corresponds to around 0.76 % of the population aged 14 and over. Popular places such as Lake Constance offer a variety of options for water sports enthusiasts.

The numbers show that Germans are very interested in water sports. Over 6 million people in Germany are involved in these activities every year. Regular water sports not only improve fitness, but also has a positive effect on cardiovascular capacity. The growing interest in water sports, coupled with the enthusiasm of athletes such as Jurij Scheibler, could continue to boost the popularity of disciplines such as the wake foiling.
