Hesse introduces resuscitation lessons at schools!
Wiesbaden, Deutschland - Wiesbaden. Hessen sets a strong sign of health! After a successful pilot phase, the resuscitation lessons are now introduced at all secondary schools in the country. 30 schools have already started in the school year 2023/24, and this year there are an impressive 180 more. By 2026, all seventh graders in Hessen are to be introduced into the life -saving techniques of revival, as the Ministry of Culture announced on Monday.
Schools have freedom of how they implement lessons, said Minister of Culture Armin Schwarz (CDU). Whether in biology or sports lessons or during special project days- integration into the regular curriculum has proven itself. The aim is to significantly increase the number of first aiders. "We want all children and adolescents to be able to act in an emergency," emphasized Schwarz. It's not about training professional rescuers, but creating a nationwide minimum standard.
alarming numbers for revival
The urgency of this measure is underpinned by frightening statistics. Professor Thomas Voigtländer, chairman of the German Heart Foundation, emphasizes that sudden cardiac death with over 65,000 cases is one of the most common causes of death in Germany. However, only in 51 percent of the approximately 70,000 cardiac arrests outside of hospitals is provided in good time. "The school is the best place to initiate socially necessary changes," continues Schwarz.
To support the implementation, the Heart Foundation and the Ministry of Culture have set up a central learning platform with materials for teachers. In addition, the Björn Steiger Foundation provides the schools with twelve resuscitation dolls and organizes presence training in cooperation with regional aid organizations. Hessen is therefore a pioneer nationwide, while similar efforts are initiated in Lower Saxony to introduce resuscitation training as a compulsory
