New garbage rules from 2025: What Wetterau households need to know now!

From 2025, the garbage system will be turned upside down in 21 cities and municipalities of the Wetteraukreis! The new rules for garbage disposal and the fees cause excitement: While some households benefit, others have to be prepared for unpleasant surprises. The most important change? The residual waste will only be picked up every three weeks in the future - that is only 17 appointments a year! Dr. Jürgen Roth from the waste management company (AWB) presented the innovations at a press conference in Friedberg and warned: "In many parts of Germany, the garbage is only picked up every four weeks!" All households in the Wetteraukreis, except in Bad Nauheim, Bad Vilbel, Limeshain and Kefenrod, are affected. The fees vary depending on the municipality, and the introduction of the "container-identification system" will ensure additional transparency. If you don't turn out your gray bin, you can save money! But be careful: in many communities you can now choose smaller 80 liter tons. For excess garbage there are residual waste bags or the possibility to release waste in the waste disposal center in Echzell.

why the changes?

The changeover is no coincidence! After three Europe -wide tenders there was a patchwork at the collection dates. Roth emphasizes: "Together uniformly" is the motto to reduce the costs and increase efficiency. The new garbage vehicles are supposed to cover less kilometers, which should reduce traffic and CO2 emissions. But the Wetterau Greens are skeptical: they fear that the departure from the weighing system leads to more waste being produced. Roth replies that in municipalities the amount of waste was not higher than before.

The collection of organic waste is converted to a 14-day rhythm in many communities, with new vehicles that recognize foreign substances such as plastic bags. The waste paper disposal is also standardized: instead of 26 times a year in Karben, there will only be a four -week rhythm. A new website will inform the citizens about the changes and a hotline should be available for questions. Preparations are in full swing, because the need for advice is enormous!
