Friedberger weekly market has to move: What does customers expect 2025?

Friedberg, Deutschland - The Friedberg weekly market, a popular attraction for many, faces a dramatic change! With the planned construction of the Kaiser Forum, the market stalls will soon have to give way. Mayor Kjetil Dahlhaus has confirmed that the removals to the parking bays will take place in 2025. "A Saturday without a weekly market is not possible," says an enthusiastic visitor, while his wife optimistically adds that the market at the new location will be just as beautiful.

The construction work is necessary to make room for the Kaiser Forum, which is supposed to house apartments, offices and even a supermarket. The Elvis Presley-Platz, where the market is currently taking place, is required for the construction work. "The space in the city center of Friedberg are limited," explains Dahlhaus. The move will not only affect the dealers, but also the customers who may have less parking. The decision to move the market to the parking bay is controversial and could upset some customers.

market character should be preserved

Dahlhaus emphasizes that Kaiserstrasse was traditionally a market road and that this revival is to be restored. "We want Kaiserstrasse and Elvis Presley-Platz to be living places where you buy and meet other people." The city plans to expand the range of market stands and to promote the exchange between the citizens. But the new circumstances bring about challenges: the parking bays are not barrier -free and could be problematic for people with mobility restrictions.

The anticipation for the new location is mixed. While some appreciate the cozy atmosphere of the parking bays, others take care of the access options. "Drinking a coffee on Saturdays and meeting nice people is just wonderful," enthuses Dahlhaus. But the city is faced with the task of maintaining this tradition despite the changes.
