Future of medicine: Marburg students experience Vogelsberger family practices
Vogelsbergkreis, Deutschland - Six emerging doctors have experienced the rural doctor's life in the picturesque region of Vogelsberg for a week. As part of the innovative program "Hessen-Land-Medicine" of the Philipps University Marburg, they sniffed into various family practices and received valuable insights into the challenges of medical care in rural areas.
The students visited several practices, including those in Alsfeld, Lauterbach and Homberg, and were enthusiastic about the warm-family dealings in the practices. They appreciated the informative exchange with the doctors, which gave them a better understanding of the special requirements of primary care in less densely populated areas. A highlight was a practical workshop on psychosomatics at Dr. Christof and Dr. Simone Schwarzer in Lauterbach, where the prospective doctors were able to implement theoretical knowledge in a practical context.
intensive week full of impressions
Hospitation was supplemented by an exciting view of the internal medicine of the Schotten district hospital, which offered the students the opportunity to get to know different medical fields. A trip to the Hoherodskopf and a social dinner with the specialist office for health care for the Vogelsberg district rounded off this educational week. With many new impressions and a feeling for the peculiarities of rural medicine, the students finally made their way to Marburg again. The program impressively shows how important such initiatives are to tackle the impending lack of land in Hesse and to inspire young talents for rural healthcare.
