Together strong: specialist conference to protect children in Taunusstein

An impressive sign against sexual abuse of children was set in Taunusstein-Neuhof on November 13, 2024! As part of the “Break your silence” campaign, the specialist conference “#aktion Schutzschild” took place, which brought together specialists from daycare centers and primary schools. The event, organized by youth coordinator Sven Opitz, was a complete success and attracted numerous participants who were looking forward to exciting lectures by the police, advice centers and the youth welfare office.

The Aartalhalle was filled to the last seat when the conference started at 2:00 p.m. The mayor of Taunusstein opened the event in moving words and emphasized the importance of sensitization and interdisciplinary cooperation. Sven Opitz introduced those present to the topic and illuminated the police procedure in cases of sexual abuse. He informed about the number of cases, perpetrators and the signs of abuse that should recognize specialists. The participants received valuable information about how they can act in an emergency and where they find support.

Martina Schött from the Wildwasser Wiesbaden e.V. advice center impressed with an anonymized case study that illustrated the urgency of the topic. Leslie Konermann from the State School Authority Wiesbaden/Rheingau-Taunus presented important concepts of the Hessian Ministry of Culture and Education and explained the internal processes in reports from schools. The work of the Rheingau-Taunus youth welfare office was also presented, especially with regard to reports on child welfare.

The event also offered a “market of possibilities” in which the participants were able to talk to various institutions and receive information material. A strong sign for the protection of children and adolescents in the region!
