Save orchards: 20,000 euros for Marburg-Biedenkopf!

Marburg-Biedenkopf. A fresh wind blows through the orchards from Marburg-Biedenkopf! The Lower Nature Conservation Authority has launched a new funding project that comes up with a whopping 20,000 euros to support the maintenance and preservation of these valuable cultural landscapes. Orchards are not only a feast for the eyes, they are also a habitat for numerous plant and animal species and play a central role in rural culture.

The funding is aimed at all citizens who want to upgrade existing orchards. Whether replanting fruit trees or professional care and maintenance cuts- the possibilities are varied! "Orcota meadows are a treasure of biological diversity," emphasizes Katharina Franziska Hof from the district's Nature Conservation Service. These meadows are not only important for fruit production, but also for the preservation of regional varieties and the support of biodiversity.

The orchards offer endangered species such as the stone owl and the turning hall. These species -rich habitats are a paradise for birds, insects and bats. But the stocks have decreased dramatically in recent years. This worrying development is to be counteracted with the new funding project “Surse treasures Marburg-Biedenkopf”. The financial support not only includes planting old and climate -packed fruit varieties, but also grants for nesting aids and the maintenance of the stocks.

The funding comes from the nature conservation compensation, which is collected by construction activities if the nature is impaired. Owners and clubs who are interested in the preservation of their orchards can contact the lower nature conservation authority directly. If you want to contribute nature and actively contribute to the preservation of our valuable orchards, you now have the chance to get involved!
