Missing cases in the Wetteraukreis: Police are fighting against the time!

The alarm bell is loud in the Wetterau! By the end of October 2024, 154 missing cases have already been registered. Behind each of these numbers is a dramatic story full of worries and fears of families and friends. The police are faced with the challenge of solving these cases quickly and efficiently in order to clarify the fate of the missing person.

A particularly tragic case occurred in July 2022 when a 14-year-old girl from Baden-Württemberg was reported missing. After eight days of desperate search, the police found the girl dead in the Teufelsee near Weckesheim. The perpetrator, a man twice as old, was convicted of murder. Fortunately, such cruel ends are the exception, but the high number of missing people in the Wetterau remains alarming. Police spokeswoman Yasmine Scholz reports on a variety of open searches from 2020 to 2024, which underline the urgency of the situation.

The search for missing: a race against the time

The police are pursuing a structured approach in the search for missing people. First, the area "inside out" is searched. In the case of a missing resident of an old people's home, the facility itself first checked. People are often found in cellars or elevators. The review of contact points and hospitals is also part of the routine. The police use all available resources, including dogs, drones and helicopters with thermal imaging cameras to find the missing people. "Costs do not matter," emphasizes a police spokesman, "all options are exhausted."

The role of relatives is crucial. You have to provide the police current information and pictures and speak openly about the missing person. Every detail can be crucial, especially if time is urged. "There were cases in which it arrived for minutes," warns the speaker. In the Wetterau there is hope that the missing persons will be found quickly and alive.
